House League Coaches Code of Conduct

Parent Introduction / Call Outs

Coaches should call the parents of their house league team roster at least a week before the season starts. Before the first game provide parents with a brief introduction to house league hockey – equal ice time, buzzer – no buzzer, how penalties work in buzzer hockey, etc.
Team management should distribute:
• The player code of conduct
• The parent code of conduct
• A team management contact sheet with telephone numbers and / or email address of all team management

Guiding Principles

As a house league coach I will:
• Teach players to play fairly and to respect the rules, Officials, opponents and teammates;
• Remember that players play to have fun and must be encouraged to have confidence in themselves;
• Ensure that all players receive equal instruction, support and appropriate, fair playing time;
• Remember that players need a Coach they can respect;
• Be generous with praise and set a good example;
• Respect all players and recognize that I am in a position of trust and power, and I will do nothing to take advantage of ,or abuse my position;
• Do my best to be a competent Coach, be well prepared and adequately skilled and will obtain training and certification as required by the Faustina Hockey Club;
• Submit to a police background check
• Not ridicule or yell at players for making mistakes or for performing poorly;
• Not address players of an opposing team except to provide positive encouragement or congratulations;
• Cooperate with Officials and address them as well as coaches of opposing teams only in a civilized and respectful tone;
• Encourage fair and open communication with parents and players and proactively address and seek to resolve all issues and conflicts directly with parents and players and report all material issues and conflicts to the appropriate Faustina official as applicable;
